Earth is at war with one of its many colonies, and his father leads the team developing a new type of mobile armor, the Gundam. An attack by an enemy squad forces Amuro into battle in the suit, and he discovers his talents for piloting go far beyond the norm. Amuro seems like an ordinary teenager,tall, brown hair, brown eyes, naive and enthusiastic,but he is a New-type, an evolutionary leap in human development with a special affinity for space and technology.
His gift will take him far from home and bring him into conflict with the most charismatic man of his era, politician and soldier Char Aznable. He changes from a gentle young man not greatly interested in politics to an arrogant, egotistical, and fiercely competitive pilot, so committed to proving he is the best that he sometimes doesn’t allow opponents the chance to surrender. Above all, he needs to show he’s better than Char, and rivalry in love as well as war comes between them when he meets Char’s protégé, Lala Sun. Surviving through many battles and seeing friend and foe alike die matures him, and eventually, after years of battle, shared loves, and fierce hatreds, he persuades Char to help him save Earth, and the two die together in the attempt.
